DONNA SUMMER 1948-2012

The entertainment industry and fans were in shock this morning as they learned that Donna Summer had died this morning after a battle with lung cancer.  Lovingly named the “Queen of Disco”, the 63-year-old was in Florida at the time of her death, according to TMZ. Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, the 5-time Grammy award winner rose to fame in the ’70s with hits like “Last Dance, Hot Stuff, I Feel Love, MacArthur’s Park, Bad Girls” and her very first hit “Love to Love You Baby“.  Following the news of Summer’s passing, the singer’s family released a saying that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.” Summer was apparently working on a forthcoming album at the time of her death. Summer is survived by her husband Brooklyn Dreams co-founder Bruce Sudano, their two children – Brooklyn and Amanda and daughter Mimi, from a previous marriage.

Time To Celebrate

Friday May 4, 2012 was a day to celebrate for Discoteria.  After three and half years on air and for the first time ever, the station finally broke the 1000 TLH (total listening hours) mark on Live 365 scoring a record high of 1072 TLH.  After several months of very low TLH, I noticed a few weeks back that this number was steadily climbing.  I’ve seen this happen before and kind of ignored it, but when I logged into the the station on Friday and noticed this number I was completely surprised.  Wow.  And what a nice surprise it was to end the week.

Coming Up on the Best of Back To Music

Coming up this week on THE BEST OF BACK TO MUSIC will be Return To Casablanca.

This was the fourteenth edition to air on the program and featured a salute to the classic record label Casablanca Records and Filmworks.  The episode originally aired November 5, 2009 and featured a special interview with Casablanca co-founder and author Larry Harris plus some of the best tracks to be released by Casablanca artists during their time with the label.

Return To Casablanca airs this Thursday at 1:00 pm Pacific and with several repeats during the week following.

Broadcasting Changes at Live365 Affect Programming on Discoteria

Sadly due to broadcasting regulation changes at Live 365, we’ve had to drop two of our longtime programs from broadcast on the station.  As a result, we are no longer able to broadcast our Saturday Night Dance Party and Lee Porter’s Disco Internet programs.  Unfortunately due to the broadcasting changes we weren’t able to broadcast these shows in their current format, and while we tried to come up alternate formats for these shows, nothing was suited under the new regulations.  As a result, we felt it was best to drop both shows for the time being until we could come up with a format that would allow us to continue airing these shows.  Unfortunately, these changes were out of our control.  We apologize to our listeners who regularly tuned in to listen to these shows but hopefully someday both shows will be able to return to the airwaves.

Back To Music Repeats

Hope you guys have been listening to the repeat broadcasts of BACK TO MUSIC and enjoying them.  Let me know what you think as maybe we can convince Stephen to do a few new editions.

Broadcast Changes Coming from Live365

Heard from the Live365 management today and it looks like there are some changes coming on what can and can’t be broadcast. Apparently effective May 1st we won’t be able to play tracks that are longer than 30 minutes which in effect kills playing any long mixes on air unless they’re all edited down into less than 30 minute segments. So this may mean the end of the Saturday Night Dance Party on Discoteria.
